There is a Metro Council meeting tonight… An agenda has been provided, and you can watch the meeting live via channel 3 or stream live for your electronic devices.
Today is the 15th Day as a member of Metro Council. Since the last newsletter, I’ve had the chance to visit with 2 of the 3 MNPD Precinct Commanders in the District. We discussed their plans for crime and public safety in our communities and the best ways residents can share their feedback with MNPD. I’ve also had the chance to attend three community meetings in the past two weeks, and lastly, I’ve met with public works and started the conversation regarding alley repairs, trash pickup, street repairs, and the status of the paving along several corridors in the District.
Throughout my first 90 days, my goals are to:
- Host a community meeting with neighbors (Scheduled for October 17)
- Recruit a volunteer District 21 Council Advisory Committee
- Visit with Public Works in regards to much-needed upgrades and repairs in the District – Infrastructure was one of the priorities I heard from neighbors.
- Visit with each MNPD precincts in the District (I’ve met with 2 of the 3)
We are moving closer to each goal every day.
What to expect tonight:
- The council body will complete several confirmations for Metro committees and elect committee chairs and a President Pro Tempore.
- We have a special resolution to authorize the employment of Jon Cooper (not the mayor) as the Special Counsel and Executive Director of the Council Office.
- There’s a public comment period tonight. We also have two resolutions on public hearing.
- CM Vercher has a resolution that the Emergency Communications Center adopts a policy that prevents 911 call takers from disregarding available GPS coordinates when responding to emergency calls.
