Tragedy in District 21
In light of the tragic events following Tennessee State University's (TSU) homecoming parade this past Saturday, I want to provide an update and address the steps moving forward. At around 5:10 p.m., a shooting occurred at the intersection of Jefferson Street and 27th Avenue N., resulting in one death and nine injuries. The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) has since apprehended suspects involved in the shooting, and their investigation is ongoing.
While this incident took place near TSU after the parade, I want to make it absolutely clear that this was not an event hosted by TSU or the City of Nashville, and it did not occur on TSU's campus. The violence that occurred is deeply disturbing and does not reflect the spirit of TSU’s homecoming or our city.
I am extremely upset and disappointed about these events, and my heart goes out to the families of the victims and the victims of this senseless gun violence. Ensuring the safety of our neighbors is my highest priority. In the coming weeks, I will be working closely with MNPD and the city scheduling office to find ways to mitigate the potential for violence during large gatherings. As you know, District 21 hosts a vast number of large events throughout the year, and we must be proactive in making sure our community is safe.
TSU remains a cornerstone of our district, and I am committed to working alongside the university and city officials to maintain the highest standards of safety and security for all events.
Thank you for your continued support and trust as we work together to protect our community.

What I've Been Up To:
- Baby P walked and rolled in the TSU Homecoming Parade - We had a great time, the parade just inched into his naptime and he definitely let us know.
- This was a slower couple of weeks for me as I traveled the week prior for work - I spent a lot of time catching up on emails and returning phone calls.
- I had a meeting with NDOT and a proposed development group regarding traffic calming along Buchanan St.
- Met with NDOT about three traffic calming possibilities. I'm hopeful we will get moving on these projects soon:
- Traffic Calming along streets between 9th Ave N and 14th Ave N between Clay and Buchanan St.
- Traffic Calming along Albion St. near the Hadley Park and TSU
- Traffic Calming along Wheless St.
- Joined a meeting for a new Neighborhood Association.
- Lastly, I've had some 1: 1 meetings with constituents over the past two weeks.
