Taking the Next Steps!

There is a Metro Council Meeting tonight… An agenda has been provided, and you can watch the meeting live via channel 3 or stream live on your electronic devices.

In our first 90 days, our goals are to:

  • Host a community meeting with neighbors - Held on October 17
  • Recruit a volunteer District 21 Council Advisory Committee - Working on this now...Stay tuned!
  • Prioritize visiting with Public Works to address much-needed upgrades and repairs in District 21 Infrastructure. - I've visited with Public Works and working with them on a few additional requests regarding infrastructure.
  • Visit with each MNPD precincts in the District - I've met with all three Commanders

What to expect tonight:

  • There is an election for a new MNPS School Board Member in District 7 that will replace an open seat after Mr. Will Pinkston's resignation in September. I am supporting Mrs. Freda Player-Peters as the new District 7 member. The difficult transition within our schools requires someone that is a bridge builder to help steer our students' futures in the right direction. Mrs. Player-Peters is an advocate for all of Nashville students and she will be a strong choice for District 7.
  • We also have two additional elections tonight:
    • 1) The appointment of three vacancies on the Community Education Commission
    • 2) the appointment of three individuals for vacancies on the Industrial Development Board
  • Short Term Rentals (STR):
    • BL2019-6: This bill will penalize individuals operating an STR without a permit by making them wait one (1) calendar year if sited.
    •  BL2019-7: Currently, only one owner-occupied STR permit is allowed per lot. This bill will allow two home lots to have two separate permits.
  • There is a resolution to extend a grant for Mending Hearts, located in District 21, to provide affordable housing

Dates to remember:

  • Saturday, November 23 -I will host office hours at Cafe Coco (210 Louise Ave) from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. I invite you to call or email me to schedule a time for a 30-minute conversation.
  • Thursday, December 5 - I will be hosting a listening session with the neighbors in the West End/Centennial Park area - Centennial Performing Arts Studio - 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
